Description

Two houses, dating from the early 18th century. They are built of colourwashed brick with a plain tile roof. A carriage opening in the centre divides the properties. Number 8 has a panelled door, topped by a small pedimented hood, set within a plain surround. Above the door is a four-paned fanlight. It has one sash window to the left, and two to the first floor; all windows have glazing bars and segmental arches. A 19th-century casement window is above the carriage entrance. Number 10 is entered through a plain panelled door to the left. It has one sash window with glazing bars, set within a flush frame, to the right. There are two early 19th-century casement windows to the first floor, and a blind window to the right of the elevation. The gabled roof continues over both houses and has two dormers, the one on Number 8 being gabled, the other having a sloping roof. An internal gable-end stack is on the north side, and a second stack rises through the front roof slope on the south side. The rear of Number 8 features a two-storey and attic cross wing with a very steeply-pitched Mansard roof. The south face has a 20th-century door and an 18th-century casement window at first floor. The east gable-head is tile-hung. Number 10 includes a pantiled outshut with a wrought-iron casement. The interior of Number 10 contains a chamfered bridging beam in the front ground-floor room, and a late 20th-century staircase. The interior of Number 8 was not inspected.
