Description

The buildings at 99 and 100 Norfolk Street, King’s Lynn, are shops and flats, likely originally built for a similar purpose in the late 15th century. They have undergone significant alterations in the 18th, 19th, and late 20th centuries. The structures are a mix of timber framing and brick, with pantiled roofs.

Number 99 has a two-storey facade of rendered and colourwashed brick, also with a pantile roof. It features a full-length glazed shopfront from the 20th century and two horned sash windows on the first floor. The roof is gabled with a stack on the rear slope. An access passageway is located between the two properties, entered under a round arch. This passageway features a rebated and chamfered stone pointed arch. Two large bridging beams pass through the passage from the houses on either side, continuing through the space. A blocked window with an iron grill is visible on the west side of the passageway. The rear of number 99 reveals exposed timber studs in the wall above the passageway. A gabled two-storey cross wing extends to the rear, with a partially restored mullioned window of three lights remaining on the ground floor.

Number 100 has a three-storey, two-bay facade in whitewashed brick. It has a 20th-century showroom fascia below late 19th-century sash windows on the upper floors. A saw-toothed eaves cornice and a gabled roof are present. A two-storey outshut addition extends to the rear, covered by a slate roof.

The interiors of both buildings include large bridging beams on the ground-floor front. Upper floors retain timber studwork.
