Description

A pair of early 19th century houses located on St George's Road in Great Yarmouth. The houses are built of gault brick and have slate roofs. Number 82 has three storeys and a two-window front. It features a six-panelled front door with the two upper panels glazed, set to the right, and a Doric order portico porch supported by fluted pilasters and columns. The portico has a metope frieze and guttae to the cornice soffit. A single-storey bow window to the left has two sashes, originally with 8/8 panes but now 4/4 due to the loss of horizontal bars. A stuccoed moulded parapet is topped with cast-iron railings. The first floor has two 6/6 sashes set in recessed openings under gauged skewback arches, and the second floor has two 6/3 sashes also with gauged skewback arches. The roof is gabled, and there is a stack on the rear slope. Number 83 has wider bays. A 20th century door is set to the right, behind a shallow 20th century porch. There is one 6/6 sash to the left, under a gauged skewback arch, with similar sashes on the first floor and two 6/3 sashes on the second floor. The roof is gabled, with a stack on the rear slope. A plank door provides access to a rear passageway. The rear of Number 83 was partly rebuilt in 1992, with new doors and windows installed at that time. Inside both houses are cantilevered stick-baluster staircases with ramped and wreathed handrails and turned newels.
