Description
No. 17 South Quay is a house that has been converted into offices, built around 1825. It features a red brick exterior that has been colourwashed on the facade, with pantiled roofs. The building has a double-pile plan and stands three storeys tall above a basement. The front has a four-window arrangement, with the right side showcasing a full-height bow window that includes three 2/2 horned sash windows on each floor. The left side has a blocked door, with access now through No. 16 to the north, framed by a doorcase with unfluted engaged Ionic columns that support a hood. Above this doorcase, there is one 2/2 sash window on each floor. The eaves cornice features modillion and dentil detailing that curves around the bow. The roof has two gabled sections, each with a stack on the south side. The rear of the building has margin sashes with multiple glazing bars. Inside, there is a stick baluster staircase with a ramped and wreathed handrail and scrolled tread ends, along with four wine bins located in the cellar.
