Description

No. 11, South Quay is a house, later converted to offices, built around 1660 for John Master, and significantly remodelled in the early 19th century. It is constructed of red brick with a roof of black-glazed pantiles. The building is three storeys high and has a three-window front. A six-panelled door is located on the left-hand side, set within panelled reveals featuring reeded surrounds and a frieze, and topped with a plain overlight. Two recessed sash windows with six upper and six lower panes flank the door, lacking horns but with gauged skewback arches. The upper floors each have three similar sash windows; those on the first floor are accompanied by continuous cast-iron balcony railings, and those on the second floor feature three single window railings. A modillion eaves cornice runs along the top of the façade. The gabled roof includes an internal gable-end stack to the south. The interior now contains late 20th-century offices and partitions, but retains a boarded staircase.
