Description
32 Southtown Road is a house, now used as offices, dating from the early 19th century. It is built of gault brick with a roof covered in pantiles, which are black-glazed at the front. The building has two storeys and features a four-window range. There is a half-glazed door at each end bay, both of which are topped with plain overlights. The left-hand (south) door is set beneath a portico porch that is supported by two fluted Doric columns and two plain pilasters, with a metope frieze above the entablature. Between the doors are two sashes that do not have glazing bars, but feature gauged skewback arches. The first floor has four 2/2 sashes, also with gauged skewback arches. A parapet runs below the gabled roof, which has a truncated ridge stack positioned to the right of centre. At the rear, there is a two-storey canted bay on the south side and a two-storey service wing on the north side. Inside, there is a stick baluster staircase with decorative cast-iron balusters placed every third tread, along with a ramped and wreathed handrail and a moulded cornice in the staircase well.
