Description

This is a terrace of six houses located on Nelson Road South, Great Yarmouth. Built in the mid-19th century, the houses were later converted into hotels in the 20th century. They are constructed of gault brick with stuccoed and rusticated ground floors, and have slate and concrete tile roofs. The three-storey terrace has a two-window range for each house, with each house consisting of two bays: an entrance bay and a canted window bay. The doors are 20th-century replacements. The canted window bays rise through two floors and were originally fitted with 2/2 unhorned sashes. Each house has two windows on the second floor. Number 46 has a pair of full-height canted bays to the north-facing return. The fenestration is largely late 20th-century casements, with some exceptions: Number 42 retains horned sashes without glazing bars to all its windows, and Number 46 has 2/2 unhorned sashes to all windows above the ground floor. The roof is gabled, hipped to the north, and has three truncated transverse ridge stacks. The rear of the terrace features two-storey gabled service wings for each house. One 2/2 sash window is visible on the rear elevation of Number 42; all other windows are 20th-century replacements. The interior of the buildings was not inspected.
