Description

No. 31 Silvergate is a former pair of estate cottages that has been converted into a single house. The building dates from the 18th and 19th centuries and is constructed of red brick with a steeply-pitched thatched roof. It has 1½ storeys and a T-shaped plan. The west range, dating from the 18th century, features 2 and 3-light wooden casements with glazing bars and two boarded entrance doors in the west wall, one located opposite the stack. The openings have segmental arches above them. There is a central axial stack that has been rebuilt, and the south gable shows tumbling-in with a segmental apex to the parapet. A platband is present at the attic floor level, along with a 2-light attic casement. The north gable also exhibits tumbling-in to the parapet and has ground floor and attic casements.

The rear range is dated 1858 on the east wall and includes casements with iron lattice glazing and moulded brick dripmoulds over the openings. There is a boarded entrance door located between the windows in the north wall. The rear range features two attic gables with 2-light casements, and a T-shaped axial stack opposite the entrance. The south wall has an attic dormer with a wooden 2-light casement and a pantiled lean-to in the south-east angle. Additionally, there is a segmental-headed half-glazed door with a diamond-shaped light above it, situated under the eaves line.
