Description

Irmingland Hall is a country house with origins in 1609, significantly altered in the 18th century and with 20th-century replacement windows. Built of red brick in English bond, the house has a hipped roof covered with red and smut pantiles. The rectangular building is two and three storeys high.

The south front has eight bays and features sashes with glazing bars set within segmental arches. A six-panel, two-leaf door is positioned off-centre to the west, accompanied by a rectangular fanlight with glazing bars and a moulded architrave. A later portico consisting of square wooden columns and pilasters provides access. A tall stair window sits above the doorway, with an infilled semicircular arched head. The roofline and eaves are continuous across the building, with an elaborate eaves cornice. Polygonal angle shafts rise up the east wall, finished with cement capping. A ridge stack is located at the east end.

To the north side are three large external chimney stacks, featuring weathered offsets and pantiled links to the main roof. A smaller, plaintiled roof sits between two of the eastern stacks. A 20th-century, two-storey, flat-roofed projection extends from the west side of the centre stack. Casements with glazing bars are present on the north side, along with two sashes with glazing bars at the west end. The west wall has two tall sashes with glazing bars. An attached red brick garden wall runs along the north-east corner, characterised by a dentilled cornice and saddleback copings.
