Description
The Village Hall, originally a Church Sunday School and Mission Room, was built in 1880, as indicated by a tablet above the entrance door. It features knapped and squared flint with red brick dressings and has a slate roof. The building is 1½ storeys tall with a symmetrical facade that includes a central projecting gabled entrance bay. The entrance doorway, dating from around 1200, has been re-set from St. Faith's Priory and features a semi-circular arched head adorned with half dog-tooth decoration, roll moulding, and a fillet. The hood moulds have stiff-leaf stops, and the doorway is flanked by engaged shafts with block capitals. Above, there is a two-light upper window with a moulded brick drip. Each side of the entrance has three windows, which are two-light casements with leaded glazing set in chamfered brick surrounds, topped with moulded brick labels. The east gable is parapeted and includes a brick bell-cote, while gable chimney stacks and brick saw-tooth eaves complete the exterior. Inside, there are two smaller door-arches and triple-arched sedilia heads that were salvaged from the priory church. The building is noted for its group value and the re-used medieval materials.
