Description
Pond Farm Barn is a barn that may have originally been used for domestic purposes. It was built in 1671 and has undergone early 18th century and late 19th century refurbishments. The structure is made of brick and flint, topped with a pantile roof, and has a rectangular shape with later additions on the south side that are not of special interest. The west gable end is constructed of flint with some brick headers and features keyed brick quoins. A datestone made of moulded brick in the gable indicates the year 1671 and includes the initials I.H. The gable has a crowstepped parapet added in the 19th century. The north wall shows remnants of the original 1671 work at the western end but is primarily composed of fine early 18th century chequer pattern brickwork with vitrified headers in Flemish bond. There are two blocked window openings with segmental heads and shaped eaves sprockets. The east gable end is from the 19th century and includes a three-centred archway with an ashlar keystone, an oculus above, and a crowstepped gable. Inside, the barn features a two-bay roof from the 1671 phase, supported by a queen post truss.
