Description
The two barns immediately north-west of the White House are a pair of structures that form an L-shaped plan. The southern barn is dated 1790, as indicated by knapped flint figures on its gable. The barns are constructed from red brick and coursed knapped flint, with the southern range featuring a pantiled roof and the northern range having a thatched roof. The southern barn includes a segmental opening on its north side and a lean-to on its south side, and it has a king post roof, which is likely original. The northern barn has a segmental arched opening and a lean-to extension on its north side, with parapeted gables. It also features a butt-purlin roof with collars between the principal rafters. These barns are included for their group value with the White House.
