Description
Mayton Bridge is a Grade II* listed bridge located over the former course of the River Bure, dating from the early 16th century. It is constructed of red brick and plain tile, featuring a double span with four-centred arches and cut waters. At road level, there is a brick platband. The bridge has parapets that are splayed at both ends, with the upstream side containing shelters that feature brick seats in recesses, formed with segmental arches of chamfered brick. Lean-to roofs cover the shelters, supported by brick kneelers, with parapet verges and saddleback coping. The upper part of the brick parapets has been rebuilt and includes stone copings. Mayton Bridge is also designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
