Description
Mayton Hall is a former manor house dating from the 15th century, now divided into two dwellings. It is constructed of brick and flint, with a brick and rendered timber frame, and features a thatched roof. The building has two storeys with attics and a single-storey extension to the south. The west facade was refaced in brick in the 19th century.
At the first floor, there are six windows arranged symmetrically, following an a-b-a pattern. The ground floor has part-glazed six-panel doors with raised and fielded panels, framed by a timber doorcase with a projecting cornice on consoles. The windows are three-light with transoms, wrought iron casements, and segmental brick arches. The rear wall jetties out, with steps next to tapered external 16th-century chimney stacks. Below the jetty is a brick and flint wall that has been much altered but retains a blocked 16th-century opening next to the stack, along with late 19th-century insertions.
On the first floor, there is a three-light chamfered timber mullion window, alongside 18th-century two and three-light windows with wrought iron casements. The north gable wall, dating from the 16th century, is made of brick and flint and features a plinth and moulded brick kneelers at the jetty and eaves. The south gable, constructed in the 18th century, is made of brick and includes a platband at the first floor level, with parapet verges and gable stacks. The south gable wall of the single-storey wing is a combination of 16th and 18th-century knapped flint for half its height, transitioning to brick. The ground floor features timber mullioned windows under a segmental brick arch, while the first floor has flat arches, with a platband at the eaves level.
