Description
The Gateway to Rackheath Park is a Grade II listed structure, dating from around 1850. It features gate piers and a screen made of cast and wrought iron, crafted by Cottam and Hallen of London. This design was showcased at the Great Exhibition in 1851. Although the gates are now missing, the gateway consists of two linked piers on each side of the estate road. The gate piers are of 'cage' construction, square in shape, and adorned with scrollwork decoration and cast iron moulded capping. There is a square-topped scrollwork screen that connects to a secondary lower pier, which is similarly constructed and topped with an elaborate wrought iron finial. The side screen has a scrolled and swept top.
