Description

Ashville and The Old Forge are a pair of houses, originally built in the early 18th century. The houses are now colourwashed brick, with some areas rendered on the east side, and have a black glazed roof. The front has four widely spaced sash windows, some with glazing bars. The ground floor windows are Yorkshire sashes with segmental heads. There are two later doorways, each with a canopy supported by console brackets. The south gable has a decorative shape with moulded brick eaves that overhang the courses. A plat band runs along the floor level, and a decorative dog-tooth brick course runs along the eaves. The chimney stacks have been rebuilt, with gable stacks and a central stack on the west side of the ridge line. Two plain brick pilasters are located at ground floor level. A one-storey extension made of brick and flint is attached to the north gable, and there are later lean-to additions to the south and east sides.
