Description
Bank House Market Stores is a late 17th and 18th century house and shop located on Foulsham High Street. The building is constructed of colourwashed brickwork with a roof of red and black pantiles. It is two storeys tall with attics. The house section features four sash windows, each with moulded timber architraves and flat, gauged brick arches. A shouldered timber doorcase frames a six-panelled, part-glazed door. A moulded brick string course and a moulded timber eaves cornice run along the house. The right-hand gable has a tumbling-in detail and gable chimney stacks. A 19th-century shop front is located to the right of the house, with large glazing bars and a half-glazed door, complemented by full-height brick pilasters and triple brick detailing with dentil eaves. A tumbling-in feature is also present on the left-hand gable. The right-hand gable is partially timber-framed and rendered, with a barge board. The left-hand corner is splayed and corbelled out to create an angle above. Two sash windows with glazing bars and moulded timber architraves are visible there.
Inside the house, original 17th-century floor joists with stopped and chamfered spine beams with run-out stops are still present. The roof is a double-pitched structure with butt purlins, along with evidence of collars and wind bracing. The shop roof is similar in construction.
