Description

The Red House is a former public house that has been converted into a private residence. It dates from the late 17th century and has undergone some later alterations. The building is constructed of brick and features a steeply pitched pantiled roof. The south block is two storeys high with an attic, displaying a two-bay facade that includes a 20th-century doorway to the right, which is set in its original opening. The sash windows, which have glazing bars, are positioned under gauged segmental arches. A plain brick string course separates the storeys and is repeated at the attic level on the south gable wall. This gable includes two blocked windows, a parapet with brick tumbling, and an internal stack, along with two small attic windows.

To the north, there is a longer single-storey range that features a 20th-century doorcase under a pediment with a Gibbs surround. The sash windows in this range also have segmental arches above them, and there is a second plain door at the north end. A gabled dormer with casement windows and a central stack are also present. Additionally, there is a further single bay constructed of flint and brick to the north.

Inside, the south range contains a panelled parlour, while the north range features a hall with a fireplace and 18th-century ceiling beams. The staircase is positioned adjacent to the stack.
