Description
The Church of St. Mary is a parish church dating from the 14th century and later. It is constructed of flint with ashlar buttress quoins and features a 19th-century tiled roof. The building is one storey high and has 2-light Y and lozenge traceried windows in both the nave and chancel. The east window is a notable 4-light reticulated design.
A fine 15th-century north porch showcases flint panelling, which has been partly repaired with brick in the 18th century, including tumbling in the north gable. Inside, there is a transverse rib vault of barrel type. The chancel contains a fine double piscina and sedilia, along with fragments of 14th-century glass in three windows.
Under the chancel arch, the lower portion of a painted 15th-century screen is visible, featuring two seats that abut to the east, one of which has an inscription. The church also houses a 15th-century font adorned with carved panels, including the Assumption of the Virgin, and a 17th-century cover.
