Description
The Gables is a house dating from the 17th century, with the year 1675 recently scratched onto the render. It has a side extension from the 18th century, now integrated under the same roof. The building features a rendered timber frame along with rendered brick and flint, topped by a pantile roof. The original house is a single cell and has two storeys with a disused attic. There is one 19th-century two-light casement window with glazing bars, while the other windows are from the late 20th century. The 18th-century extension has a dentil cornice. The house has gable-end stacks and various modern additions.
Inside, there is a fine roll-moulded spinal bridging joist and angle rolls to the common joists. Three blocked diamond mullion windows can be seen in the roof space, along with chevron pargetting on the former gable also located in the roof space. The interior features arch braced cambered ties and the remains of a two-bay clasped purlin roof with reduced principals.
