Description
Nos. 9 and 11 on White Hart Street in Thetford are 17th-century houses that were re-roofed in the early 18th century and had their facades altered in the mid-19th century. The northern part, No. 11, dates entirely from the mid-19th century. The buildings have a brick core with a gault brick facade and feature pantile and slate roofs.
No. 9 has a central glazed door set under a semi-circular arch, with a 2/1 sash window to the right and similar sashes in the ground-floor bay to the left. There are two 6/6 sash windows on the first floor and a gabled pantile roof. No. 11 features a late 19th-century plate-glass shop front and a side door, with a canopy box above and two first-floor sashes without glazing bars.
At the rear of No. 9, there is a 17th-century cross wing that is two storeys tall, though it has altered details. Inside, the ground-floor north room of No. 9 contains a 17th-century bridging beam with double roll-moulding, while there is an early 20th-century staircase and inserted partitions on the first floor. The roof of the front range has two tiers of butt purlins and collars, and the rear wing roof has been renewed.
