Description
The White House is a 17th-century farmhouse that was faced and refurbished in the 19th century. It features a timber frame with gault brick facing and pantile roofs. The building has a former lobby-entrance type plan, is two storeys high with an attic, and has a facade with three regular bays of sash windows that include glazing bars, although one window is blocked. The ground floor windows are set beneath skewback arches, and there is a modern front door located at the southern end of the facade. An off-centre axial stack is present, along with a 19th-century two-bay side addition made of red brick, which has three sash windows with glazing bars. At the rear, there is a lean-to outshut.
Inside, the timber frame is fairly complete, showcasing wide chamfers and stepped stops on the spinal bridging joists and tie beams. The roof features remains of a clasped purlin structure that has been extensively repaired.
