Description

Overgate House is an early 18th-century former farmhouse, with later additions. The house is built of chequer-patterned brick, with a plaintile roof. It is two storeys high with an attic, and originally had four bays, now featuring 3-light ovolo-moulded mullion and transom windows dating from the 19th or 20th century. Three original skewback arches are present at the first floor level, with ground-floor windows positioned beneath them and featuring cambered soffits. A modern, off-centre front door is raised and fielded panelled, with a flat hood above. Projecting eaves and three dormers, each with a hipped roof, modillion cornices, and 2-light casement windows are also present. The structure incorporates one off-centre axial stack and one gable-end stack. Heightened gables show tumbling-in details. Later additions have been made to the side and rear of the building. Inside, one fireplace has a bolection-moulded surround, and a plain chamfered bridging joists with stepped stops are visible. The roof is of 19th-century construction, with wedge tenoned butt purlins.
