Description
The Scoulton War Memorial is a First World War memorial that also includes later additions for the Second World War. It is made of limestone and is situated in the churchyard of the Grade I listed Holy Trinity Church. The memorial features a limestone wheel-head cross on a simple shaft, which sits atop a tapering four-sided plinth with a moulded cap, all resting on a single-tiered base.
The plinth is inscribed with the following text in incised lettering: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN GRATEFUL AND LOVING REMEMBRANCE OF THE MEN OF THIS PARISH WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918 THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE (NAMES) 1939-1945 (NAMES)." Additionally, there is a metal plaque on the lower part of the shaft that reads: "A MEMORIAL PLAQUE HAS BEEN PLACED IN THE CHURCH NOVEMBER 1981." This plaque was added in 1981 to commemorate the same individuals, as the original inscriptions had become difficult to read.
