Description

Old Jolly Farmers is a house that dates from the late 17th century. It was converted into a public house in the 19th century and then back into a house in 1954. The building is timber framed, covered in early 18th-century brick, and has a thatched roof. It has a lobby entrance plan.

The exterior is one storey with a dormer attic. The south front features an early 20th-century door located to the left of the center. There is one late 20th-century three-light casement window to the left and two to the right, all under segmental heads. The roof has two eyebrow dormers with late 19th-century two-light casements, and there is a ridge stack positioned over the door.

On the east gable end, there is one 20th-century casement window on the ground floor and two on the first floor. The north side has a full-length pantiled outshut fitted with 20th-century windows and a door. The west gable end features two 19th-century two-light leaded casements on the ground floor and one late 20th-century casement in the attic.

Inside, the west ground-floor room has a chamfered bridging beam with one tongue stop. There is a winder staircase located north of the stack. The east center room contains a chamfered spine beam with tongue stops, along with two east service rooms. The first floor displays jowled principal studs, and the roof structure consists of principals, collars, and one tier of butt purlins. The building's plan is particularly interesting as it retains post-medieval service rooms in combination with a lobby entrance.
