Description
Rose Cottage is a two-storey, two-bay house built from knapped flint with gault brick dressings and a slate-clad roof, dating from the 18th century. The building has a picturesque appearance with a rectangular plan and a projecting porch on the west side.
The exterior features blocked quoins and a steeply pitched roof with coped gable ends and tumbled in brick kneelers. A central chimney rises through the ridge of the roof, topped with two tall angled stacks that have oversailing brick courses and circular pots. The principal elevation faces west and includes a gabled porch on the left side, which contains a timber door with vertical panels set beneath a four-centred brick arch. This elevation is also adorned with a centrally placed window on the ground floor and two symmetrically placed windows on the first floor. These windows are iron casements with lattice glazing bars, framed by ornamental surrounds made of blocked brick. The south return of the house has two windows on each floor; the upper left window is blind, while the lower right features a late 20th-century casement. The other two elevations were not inspected. The interior has not been examined.
