Description
The Priory Gatehouse is a 14th-century structure located in Thetford. It is built from cut flint with ashlar dressings and currently has no roof. The gatehouse stands three storeys tall, with the north and south faces being similar in design. The north face features diagonal corner buttresses, while the south face has polygonal towers. There is a central segmental arch on both the north and south sides, each with chamfers. The first floor includes a three-light cusped window, and the second floor has a two-light cusped window, both with square heads. This window arrangement is mirrored on the north side. The south-east tower contains a winder staircase. The first floor also has a fireplace in the west wall and a garderobe in the south-west tower, which features a vaulted ceiling. A fireplace is also present on the second floor.
