Description
Grove Cottages are two cottages located on Grove Road in Banham, dating from the 17th century and later. The western cottage is likely timber framed but has been plastered on the outside, featuring a steep pantiled roof with overhanging eaves. It is two storeys high and has a large rebuilt stack above a stepped gable. The front elevation includes 19th-century casement windows and a 20th-century half-glazed door, creating an asymmetrical entrance. The rear elevation has similar windows and a more recent weatherboarded lean-to.
The adjoining eastern cottage dates from around 1800 and is constructed of brick with a pantiled roof. This cottage is also two storeys tall and has three bays, with two 20th-century doorways flanking the original door, which has been bricked up. It features 20th-century casements, and the end gable rises above a two-storey brick lean-to, which has header hand coping and tumbling. There is also a single-storey rendered brick lean-to. The cottages are included for their group value with the western cottage.
