Description
The remains of St Mary's Chapel, originally built in the 12th century, have been converted into a dwelling and then back again, with most of the structure being rebuilt in the late 20th century. The chapel is constructed of flint with some ashlar dressings, while rebuilt sections are made of brick with flint facing. The roofs are covered with corrugated metal and asbestos. The chapel features an aisleless nave with a stilted apse. The south wall of the nave has a semicircular headed doorway adorned with carved chevron ornament and one 13th-century hollow chamfered lancet window. The north wall includes an undressed semicircular headed doorway and a single splayed window, also undressed except for an arched lintel. The apse has been almost entirely rebuilt and contains a 13th-century lancet window along with three undressed single splayed windows. The west wall features one single splayed window with a stone arched lintel. Inside, the chancel arch has been completely rebuilt, incorporating some 12th-century angle roll ornament and a pair of plain imposts with a rectangular section.
