Description

This 18th-century post office, shop, and dwelling is situated on the west side of Church Street in Litcham. The building is constructed of brick with a black pantiled roof, and is likely two storeys high, possibly with attics. It originally comprised a house of five bays, featuring sash windows with glazing bars, and skewback arches to the ground-floor windows. The central doorway has a raised and fielded panelled door with a St. Andrew’s cross lower panel, set within a doorcase featuring a dentilated pediment supported by consoles. Other original features include a plain platband and rusticated quoins. An early extension was added to the side and rear, incorporating a 20th-century shop front. Above the shop front are two sash windows with glazing bars, matching the rusticated quoins of the original structure. The original house has a steeply pitched roof and a central axial stack.
