Description
The PL London Golf Club is a large country house that has been developed over several periods, primarily around 1860, with a late 17th century section located to the right of the center. The building features three windows to the left of the center that date back to the early 18th century. The exterior has been recased, and the structure was extended at both ends in 1861 by the Hambry family. It is constructed of red brick with dark red brick diaper work, and the windows have flush stone surrounds and sills, with those in the right wing featuring Tudor hood moulds. The roof is covered with machine tiles and the building stands at two to three storeys tall. It includes sash and casement windows, most of which have had their glazing bars removed.
The entrance elevation is marked by a prominent four-storey tower porch that has a crenellated parapet and corbelled stone eaves. The arched doorway is adorned with traceried half-glazed doors. The house exhibits numerous gables and gabled projections on its elevations, along with Tudor-style polygonal chimney stacks. At the northern end of the building, there is a former 17th century barn with exposed tie beams, which has been faced with brick and topped with a slate roof. Adjoining this is a brick chapel that features lancet-style windows on the ground floor and a modern upper floor.
On the southern end of the house, there is a central first-floor balcony window that has two cusped lights and a moulded, carved stone soffit. Inside, the property boasts a staircase from around 1730 that ascends to the attic on the left center, featuring alternating plain and barleytwist balusters. Additionally, an early to mid-17th century staircase, possibly relocated from another site, was moved around 1980 from the entrance hall and is currently disassembled in the 17th century wing. The front courtyard is enclosed by a wall built in 1861, made of red brick and pierced with square stone quatrefoil panels.
