Description
Sherardswood School Lockleys is a country house built in 1717 on the site of an earlier house. It features brown brick with red brick and rubbed brick dressings, topped by a tiled roof with a parapet. The building is three stories high, with the lower two stories showcasing a giant Doric order that includes pilasters on stone bases and a full entablature. The facade has a 2:5:2 arrangement of sash windows set in moulded frames, each with segmental gauged brick arches, aprons, and moulded stone sills, along with original thick glazing bars. The recessed center of the building has a door surrounded by fluted Roman Doric columns and a segmental open pediment that displays a carved and painted armorial bearing. The south elevation features a two-window extension, likely added by Sir R Blomfield after 1911. Inside, there is a large staircase with fielded panels, featuring alternate barley twist and fluted balusters located on the south side of the entrance hall.
