Description

The Stable Block at North Mymms Park is a late 19th-century building, likely constructed around 1893-4, designed by Sir Ernest George and Yates. It is a red brick structure with a diaper pattern of blue headers, featuring plain tile roofs. The block is arranged in a U-shape, with an entrance on the south-east side. This entrance is framed by polygonal bastions, each with a curvilinear gable and slit windows. Walls on either side of the entrance feature small mullioned casements. An attached L-shaped house is present on the left, mirroring the gables and windows of the main block. The central courtyard elevation incorporates three gables with small crowning pediments, and an arched entranceway above which sits a canted oriel. A clock tower rises from the roof ridge, displaying a wooden base with Ionic corner columns. The building is distinguished by tall chimney stacks with relief panels, and mullioned and transomed leaded casements. Side wings terminate in 2-storey stable blocks, each adorned with twin gables along the north-east walls. Central cast iron gates are set within brick and stone-banded piers.
