Description

No. 17 Moor Lane is a house that was originally built as a lodge or tea pavilion for Moor Park between 1763 and 1765, and is said to have been designed by Robert Adam for Sir L. Dundas. The building has been extended in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of brick with stone dressings and features a tiled roof, which was originally thatched. The structure is designed as an octagonal block connected to a square block, with one storey and an attic in the square block.

The building has 20th-century leaded casements throughout. The entrance is located to the left on the link and features a later timber and tiled porch, with a two-light casement window to the right. The octagonal block has round-headed windows on three sides, supported by gauged brick arches. A stone impost band with frosted rustication runs around the building, along with a stone plinth. Each face of the octagon has gables topped with a central pyramidal roof. French windows open to the garden, with a blind opening above.

The square block includes a two-light window on the ground floor and a Diocletian window with a lowered sill in a gable on the entrance front. There is a gable to the left over the link. On the right side facing the road, there is a large pseudo-Venetian timber window with Doric pilasters and a tympanum, set within a large relieving arch beneath a gable. The rear has stacks that adjoin extensions, with the stack facing the road set back slightly, using similar materials and windows, and featuring a frieze that imitates the original design. The interior has had original features removed.
