Description
North Grove Lock House is a lock cottage located on the Grand Union Canal at Lock No. 71, dating from the early 19th century. The building is constructed of pale buff face brick, featuring gauged buff brick soldier course lintels above the windows. It has a hipped slated roof and is split level with two storeys, one of which faces the lock. The front has two bays and includes masonry steps leading up to a solid central door entrance. There are S-brackets supporting a cantilevered hood over the door that breaks the main roofline. The flanking windows consist of single-light timber casements and double-light casements, all set back from the wall. The eaves display exposed rafters. At the rear, there are two chimney stacks topped with three-course oversailing and finished with cream clay pots. The left return and rear also have two storeys and feature two-light casements. The interior has not been inspected, but the building was restored in the early 21st century.
