Description
The Howard, Hawkins, Carpenter and Lane Memorial is a chest-tomb located immediately northeast of the Church of St. Lawrence in Abbots Langley. It dates from the late 18th century and is constructed of ashlar stone. The tomb features a moulded base and raised fielded panels, with two panels on the long sides and one on the short sides, topped with a projecting moulded capping. The capping includes an inscription commemorating S. Howard, who died in 1764. Additionally, the east and north sides bear inscriptions for G. Hawkins, who died in 1783, L. Carpenter, who died in 1794, and H. Lane, who died in 1785, although some inscriptions are illegible.
