Description
Town Hall Chambers is an early 18th-century building located on the west side of Market Place, comprising Nos. 31 to 37a. It is two storeys high with an attic and features six windows. The building has a high-pitched tiled roof that rises in the centre and includes two square-headed dormers. The walls are constructed of blue and red brick, with some areas panelled and others featuring a diaper pattern, topped with a brick parapet. The windows are renewed sash types set in near-flush, moulded frames, with gauged, flat red brick arches and red brick jambs. The ground floor has modern shop fronts, but the entrance to No. 35 is notable for its doorcase, which has an open pediment supported by columns in a modified Doric style, featuring a cornice with modillions and dentils. The doorcase also includes a fluted cornice head and a patterned fanlight above the door.
