Description
The London Coal Duty Marker, located at the south corner of the garden to the Queens Head Public House in Colney Heath, was erected between 1861 and 1862 to indicate the limit of coal duty in the London area. This cast iron post stands about one and a half metres high and is painted white. It features chamfered corners and roll mouldings that form a capital. The front of the marker displays the City of London crest along with the inscription: '24 & 25 Vict Cap 42'. The plinth bears the maker's mark of Henry Grissell iron works, located at Regents Canal, London. This marker is one of four in the parish and is considered a very well preserved example, likely the best in Hertfordshire.
