Description

This is a row of four 16th-century houses, refaced around 1700, located at numbers 13 to 17 Holywell Hill. They originally included numbers 19 and 21, which were formerly known as the "Saracen's Head." Each house is two storeys high and has two windows. The roofs are steeply pitched and tiled, with deep eaves cornices decorated with modillions. The frontages are all plastered.

Number 13 has plain reveals to its first-floor sash windows, and a later 19th-century shop front on the ground floor. Number 15 features first-floor sash windows with glazing bars in narrow, moulded frames, alongside small oriel shop windows on brackets flanking the front door. Number 17 has first-floor sash windows with glazing bars set in near-flush, moulded frames. The ground floors of all three houses are unified by a series of shop fronts dating from the earlier 19th century, designed to resemble earlier styles. These include a dentilled cornice, triglyphs in the fascia, Tuscan pilasters on the sides, and attached columns in the center. A panelled soffit is present at the entrance to number 17.

The properties have gabled rear extensions suggesting a 17th-century appearance. Numbers 1 to 25 (odd) are considered to be a group.
