Description
5 Holywell Hill is an early 18th-century house that has two storeys and a basement, featuring seven windows. A third storey was added in the mid-19th century, which includes three windows: two-light windows on the sides and a one-light window in the centre. There is a brick band at the first floor level, and the parapet conceals a high-pitched, tiled roof that is visible from the rear, complete with gabled dormers and a deep, moulded eaves cornice. The front is constructed of blue brick with red brick dressings, while the added storey is made of purplish brick. The first-floor windows have gauged, flat brick arches and replaced sashes set in flush, moulded frames, with the centre window blocked. There are three similar windows on the ground floor, and a rendered plinth. Access to the door, which has six fielded panels, a cornice head, and a patterned fanlight, is via six stone steps with cast iron handrails. The door is set in a doorcase with pilasters featuring fluted necking, a cornice, and an open pediment adorned with modillions and dentils, matching the design of No 3. There is a carriageway on the ground floor to the right. Nos 1 to 25 (odd) form a group.
