Description

Whip Cottage is a house, originally built as an inn in the later 18th century, with a suggested date of 1780. The ground floor is constructed of chequered red brick, while the upper floor was rebuilt in the early 19th century using plain red brick. The roof is covered with machine tiles. A cellar is located beneath the right-hand side of the building. There are two 3-light windows with glazing bars. A central 19th-century door is set within a moulded frame. The ground-floor windows have gauged brick lintels, and the windows have 19th-century wooden shutters. The upper floor has a blank central panel. Two 18th-century chimney stacks are present; the left one is external, and the right one is now incorporated into a recent extension. The interior features 18th-century exposed studwork and chamfered floor beams with run-out stops. A 19th-century extension is located at the rear of the property.
