Description

Old Dove House is a house, originally a farmhouse, dating from the 15th or early 16th century. It began as a hall house with 16th-century gabled cross wings added at both ends, and underwent 19th-century alterations before being completely refaced in the 1930s. The house is four timber-framed bays in length, with the hall portion consisting of two bays. The ground floor is in painted brick, while the upper floor is roughcast and painted to look like timber framing. It has two storeys and attics, with four double-glazed casement windows. A 20th-century gabled porch with a 20th-century flush-panel door, likely in its original position, features a moulded wooden frame. A 19th or 20th-century replacement chimney stack is located next to the left cross wing. Inside, the cross wings display exposed floor beams and jowles. The hall contains a large central roof truss with heavy curved braces, as well as two square crown posts in the roof. A rear stair projection, probably from the 17th century, is incorporated into a larger 19th-century red-brick projection. A 17th-century red-brick stack is present on the rear of the right cross wing.
