Description

The Old King's Arms, located at 1 George Street, is a 16th-century building that stands two storeys high and features two windows. It is timber framed and has a high-pitched tiled roof with a moulded wood eaves cornice. The building displays thick timbers and diagonal braces supporting the overhanging first floor, which has broad, exposed beam ends. The sash windows from the 18th century include glazing bars set in a projecting box frame, while the space between the timbers is filled with roughcast. The ground floor was renewed in the late 19th century, featuring small-paned windows and glazed tiles in the door jambs. The Old King's Arms is part of a group that includes Nos 1 to 7 on George Street.
