Description
Old Thatch is a house dating from the mid to late 17th century, altered and restored in later periods. The house is timber-framed and plastered, with a main stack of red brick and a smaller, subsidiary stack of yellow brick. It has a steeply pitched thatched roof, with pantiles on the outshuts. The original layout was a three-cell lobby entry plan, to which later extensions have been added to the left and right. The front of the house features a timber door with a small margin light to the right. There is a three-light timber glazing bar casement to the left, and two similar windows to the right, one with two lights; all have timber sills and lintels. A single, separately thatched gabled dormer window sits above the central window, featuring a two-light casement. Casements are present on the road front of the extensions and in both gable ends. The main axial ridge stack has oversailing courses. A smaller, subsidiary external stack is located on the right gable end wall. Interior features include an exposed tie beam and half hip to the left, and a staircase immediately to the right of the entrance, positioned in front of the stack. The interior was not inspected during the listing process.
