Description
Newnham Hall is a house with origins dating back to the 16th century, formerly known as Church Farm. The current structure was built in the early 19th century and underwent significant alterations and enlargements in the mid-19th and 20th centuries. The main range is constructed of red brick, with white brick additions and a slate roof. The front range includes the main rooms and an entrance passage, separated by a thick wall from the later kitchen wing.
The main block is two storeys high with four windows. The entrance is located in the second bay from the left, featuring ground floor glazing bar sashes with cambered arched heads. There is a fielded panelled door beneath a semi-circular fanlight, framed by a pilastered doorcase and a simply moulded portico. The eaves cornice is adorned with timber modillions. A single gabled dormer is present on the front pitch of the roof.
There is a cross axial ridge stack between the two right-hand bays and an external stack on the right gable end, both featuring decorative oversailing courses. A sash window is located in the left gable above a plat band. To the left side, there is a large extension at the rear, which includes a full-height canted bay facing the garden and two double stacks at the front and back. The interior has not been inspected. A wall running at right angles to the front separates the Hall from a cottage extension on the right. Additionally, a garden wall extends from the front wall of the house to the left. The Hall is set back from the road behind a barn.
