Description

Numbers 2 and 4, including front railings, are a pair of houses dating from the mid-19th century, notable for their unusual and carefully considered design. Constructed of yellow brick with a Welsh slate roof and an eaves cornice, the houses have basements and two storeys, with a projecting pair of three-storey bays. The window arrangement is 1:2:1, with casement windows throughout, except for first-floor sash windows in the bays. The window heads are elaborately decorated with stucco: ground-floor windows have pediments on consoles, first-floor windows have open pediments on consoles, and second-floor windows feature rusticated flat arches. A central first-floor window is a two-light casement set within a reveal, itself beneath a wide pediment supported by consoles. The central doorways are round-arched, each with a fanlight, foliated keyblock, and consoles, and with wreath ornamentation to the archivolts. Good cast iron railings are present along the front path and over the area.
