Description
Rose Cottage is a house that features an early 18th-century exterior, likely covering an older structure. It is built of red narrow brick in Flemish bond, which probably serves as a casing for a timber frame. The house is two stories high with attics and has a two-cell, internal-chimney, lobby-entry plan. It faces south and includes a single-storey, short west service wing from the 18th century that is set back from the front. The large catslide rear outshut was rebuilt in the 20th century and has two hipped dormers on its roof.
The south front of the house has a low stucco plinth and a plat-band, with two windows on each floor and a door in between. There is a gabled timber porch, and light red dressings are present on the window jambs and corners of the house. The ground floor windows have cambered arches, and the slightly recessed two-light small-pane casement windows are featured throughout. The front door is a framed and moulded plank door set in a heavy moulded frame. In the gable, there is a small mullioned leaded two-light attic window with a plate casement, and the purlin and wallplate ends are visible in the gable walls.
