Description
The Wilderness is a house built in the early 18th century, with extensions from the 18th and 19th centuries. It features plum brick in Flemish bond with red dressings, roughcast on the first floor of the extension, and applied half-timbering on its front and the upper part of the west gable end. The house has steep old red tile roofs and is two storeys high with end chimneys, following a two-cells plan and facing south. It has a central entrance and extensions to the east, one of which is a single-storey structure with a hipped roof. The south front includes three upper windows in the main range, with box eaves and a plat band, and a central entrance featuring a half-glazed door situated between two shallow bays. The windows are generally flush casement types with small panes, consisting of two-lights and three-lights in the two-storey part of the east extension, which also has a lean-to pentice with a door and window. A sun fire insurance plaque is displayed on the front.
