Description

This is a building dating from the 16th or 17th century, located on Hitchin Street. It appears to have been accompanied by two rear wings situated on either side of a yard, accessible via a carriageway in front. It may have previously operated as an inn. The front facade is plastered and is topped by a steeply pitched tiled roof, with a hip at the west end. The building is two storeys high. A central carriageway cuts into the upper storey, resting on a moulded beam. The first floor has three windows: one casement window and two sash windows. The ground floor features two canted bay windows on the right, and a shop bay window on the left, which is set beneath the oversailing first floor. There are two half-glazed doors, each sheltered by a hood supported on consoles. The building forms a group with numbers 1, 1B, 3, 5, 7, 23 to 31 (odd), 31A, 33, 33A, 35 and 43 to 57 (odd).
