Description

Butterfield House, located at Hitchin Street, was built between 1870 and 1873 by William Butterfield as the Rectory for St. Mary's Church. It is designed in a modified Gothic style and constructed from red brick, featuring bands and patterns of black brick. The building has two storeys, a tiled roof with a brick cornice at the eaves and gables at both ends, and a timber-framed gable positioned left of centre. There are brick chimneystacks with offsets and segmental glazing bars. The left central porch is complemented by a square brick bay on the right side of the ground floor. Butterfield House is part of a group that includes Nos 2 to 16 (even).
